gotta say up top that the bag is great. just what i was looking for. not crazy about the shipper. bag came without the cross strap which was in the picture and listed on the tag attached to the bag. emailed them and they responded with an apology and a promise to get it out....and then nothing. further emails have seen no response. looking elsewhere for the crossstrap now.


This is definitely a solid versatile bag. I have 2 classic messenger bags and 1 commute laptop messenger bag. The large size classic messenger bag makes a perfect beach bag; easily fits 2 large beach towels, a tarp for shade, sun screen, extra clothes, sandals, hat, frisbee etc...and is has those small pockets for your cell phone, wallet, and a key string...and its water proof (so don't have to worry about that big wave soaking all of your stuff when your not paying attention!).
The medium size bag is great all around city bag; on the bus, art fairs, concerts, college books etc...and the cross strap is perfect when your on your bike (that's what this bag is made for.) The medium messenger bag easily fits everything you could ever need for a day in the city with room to spare.
However, if you are looking to carry a laptop I would recommend going with the commute laptop messenger bag or any other timbuk2 bag that is laptop specific. The classic messenger bag has no structure as others reviewers have mentioned, and thus its not really made to hold a lap top. The commute laptop messenger bag is the way to go if your looking to haul your laptop and business papers...it has a very nice protective laptop sleeve and more pockets for your school or business stuff.


I got the large size at first, and once I realized that it was way too big. The material feels nice and durable. I don't think that I'll get any damage to this unless I do something excessive to it.


PLUS: Okay to start off this bag is AMAZING!!!!! it has an ample amount of space ( X-large is big enough to fit a desktop PC!!) very durable and surprisingly lite :) also has a few compartments that i didn't notice in the picture quite helpful!! the inside is lined with a water proof lining I tested it i accidently pored my cup of water in the bag and no water got out 0.0 I have even heard stories of people droping thier timbuck 2 bag in the ocean with their laptop inside and no water got in!!!! so yeah definately waterproff the outside is quite rugged and hard to cut, burn, etc.

Minus: the bag has no shape holding it up so it tends to kind of fit the shape of whatever is in there so be cautious of how you arrange things inside, also NO WATER BOTTLE HOLDER this was a shock to me. for a bag that has so much going for it why did they NOT put a water cup holder in it?!?! to me this is big because i have a favorite water cup i like to use so a big issue for me, but other than that noting else to say

OVERALL: all in all this is a great bag in any size I attend college and it holds all of my big books (6 in total al atleast 1-2 inches thick) and still has room for my coat and whatever else. Also very durable and kind of trendy ;) but beware you will have to buy a water cup holder for the bag because it DOES NOT HAVE ONE. but I definately rate this a 4 out of 5


My son is very particular about his possessions and this bag was one he requested for Christmas and he really loves it. He researchs important possessions he purchases and he undoubtly did the same in this case. Service was prompt ant this had the look and feel of a quality product.


I came late to the Timbuk2 brand. I've usually used backpacks for my daily commute. But I got this bag and haven't looked back. I just throw my stuff in it, throw it over my shoulder, secure the waist strap and I'm off. No packing or unpacking.

The bag is made of very sturdy material and the inside is lined with a waterproof liner that keeps everything dry. There is an organizer pocket on the inside of the bag for the small stuff too. The bag stays secure on my back and doesn't swing left or right as long as I secure the waist strap.

It would be the perfect bag if they had some kind of pocket on the outside that held a water bottle or other small item so that you didn't have to open the bag to get to anything. Other than that, it is a really great bag.


This is the best investment in a bag I have ever made. It looks brand new and I have had it for almost 8 months. Its waterproof, durable, and I can fit a lot of heavy school books into it. The strap is thick and comfortable to strap around your body. I love having it on my bike rides to the grocery store, because you can fit so much into it and not have to put plastic bags on your handle bars and hope they don't break on the way home!

LOVE IT. I plan to get a smaller one for shopping and travel.


This bag really amazed me when I got it. It was the perfect size with a little extra room just in case. I'm able to take it downtown when I commute and bring a textbook and change of shoes to work, as well as carry all my textbooks, notebooks, and binders to school. It is extremely versatile and I love that it's waterproof and very durable. This bag will also be extremely useful when I'm able to go away for the weekend. :) This was definitely the bag for me.


I've been using my medium timbuk2 messenger bag for the past 2 years. Frankly, I think large is way too big. Even medium is a bit much for my 5'3" frame. Let me give you an idea of how much a medium bag can hold: 2 thick textbooks, a 15" laptop in casing, lunch, portable mug/water bottle, gym clothes + sneakers. So in short, it's perfect for those who leave early in the morning and don't get home until the evening. It has enough various-sized pockets on the inside and outside of the bag to feed all my compulsive needs. It works also exceptionally well as a carry-on and overnight or weekend trips. The bag is certainly durable and stylish with an added bonus of having the option to customize the color blocks. I liked that about timbuk2 bags -- crumpler bags seemed a little boring. And to clarify, timbuk2 bags are waterproof in a sense that the contents of your bag will not get wet; but the bag will, because it is the inner lining of the bag that is waterproof, not the outer material. Once the bag dries, it's as good as new, but I now spray my bag with a water-repellent from time to time.

If you decide to buy a medium or large, definitely shell out a few more bucks for a padded strap, because while the strap is nice and wide, it provides zero cushioning for your shoulders.


I got the small one.

2) It might not be good for protecting things that get creased easily (e.g. loose sheets paper), esp. when it's relatively empty (as it has no structure)

I use it every day. Looks like a good investment.

My wife loved the bag. I had it monogrammed with no problem. The bag is quite big.
Maybe too big just for a workout bag.


I love the bag - I took it with me to travel to my friends house. it has lots of pockets and feels sturdy and light. Good size.

I only wish it were amazon prime eligible. I think I waited about a week for it to arrive and when it did it needed to be sign for. Since I was at work i had to pick it up at the UPS sorting facility.

otherwise it is a 5 stars easy


I actually bought this at the store and I tried the different sizes and medium is actually pretty big but it is just right because packing an extra change of clothing would not be a worry. The mesh pockets on the side are always used because I use it sometimes for swim and I separate my wet stuff from my wallet and cellphone. It has a great build and the shoulder strap is very comfortable and the small duffel does not have a padded shoulder strap so that also made me go with the medium. I am satisfied because it serves multiple purposes. I would also add that I bought it on sale at a nike store for less so look around for the best price.


I bought two of Nike Brasilia IV M Duffel in last year and I like so much to use it. Is very light and comfortable for travel and transport my soccer equipment.
I have one in blue and one in black.


A good, sturdy bag. I brought it with me as a checked-in baggage on plane, and it did not break or anything. A good purchase.

High Sierra 36-Inch Drop-Bottom Wheeled Duffel (Black)

This is the best wheeled duffel on the market. I travel on ski trips year round, and I am able to store all of my gear (except for my skis) in this duffel. The duffel is quite large, so you have to be carful about exceeding the 50 lb. airline weight limit for normal-sized bags. However, this is the most durable duffel I have found. All of the other duffels I have purchased (including another High Sierra duffel that had cheaper zippers) have suffered from ripped seams or failed zippers after about a year of use.


I purchased this bag for a 14 day family cruise. It held an amazing amount of stuff. Lots of nooks and crannies to cram in last minute items. Was easy to maneuver and handle even when it was overpacked and super heavy. Based on the prior reviews, I knew there was a risk that it would get zinged with an oversize baggage charge based on its dimensions and I was prepared to pony up. But I was pleasantly surprised that I never got charged even though I had to check it at three seperate airports (always US Air). It doesn't look as big as it is. I am extremely pleased with this purchase.


This is a great bag! It can hold a piece of the world! It rolled well and was very stylish; a little pricey, but it seemed like it would be with u for the long haul. Purchased it for a college student approx. 600 miles from home and who will do a lot of travel over the years. The drop bottom was an added bonus, nice for suits or shirt or shoes...


I'm on my third one of these bags. There's really nothing else I've seen that's this good, and I look. Having said that, the size, shape and design means that you are putting a lot of strain of the bag, which means that it wears out.

I fly about 100,000 miles a year, and also take my luggage on 20-30 car trips. Basically I travel 40-45 weeks. These bags last me about 2 years. That's 2 years on heavy travel with a fully-packed bag. I've never had a problem with a zipper, handle, or wheel with any of the three I've owned. I have had them rip and tear, and also just kind of wear through at the edges. But considering the usage I give them, that's not unexpected. The straps and buckles on the sides always get broken by the airlines - they are in a place that snags easily.

The design is great. The bottom zips open and you have a large flat area when you can lay your pants and folded shirts flat. There are 2 straps here to keep them from sliding around. Then once you zip the top back on, you have a large center area and 2 end pockets with flexible dividers (you can just use all the space for the center compartment if you like.

The bag is huge. You could easily put 7-10 pairs of jeans, 7-10 shirts, some toiletries, sweatshirts, jackets, socks, etc in here with room to spare. The problem is that when packed, it is over the size limit of almost every airline. As an elite on NWA I get away with it, but a regular flyer would be paying both an oversize and overweight charge if he filled this case.

So I'm guessing that bags this size will be phased out eventually. But if you have a need for a bag this big, this is a good one, and very inexpensive for something this size and quality.


This duffel bag was used on two different motorcycle trips to ship gear to the riding destination. It easily held two motorcycle jackets, two pairs of pants, a helmet, several pairs of shoes and boots, and still had room for other things. The zippered bottom compartment was good for the boots and shoes to keep them away from the clothes. The wheels made it very easy to get through the airport with this very heavily packed bag.

Outdoor Products Mountain Duffel (Large)

This versatile multi-sport duffle is the perfect travel companion.

This bag was not nearly as heavy-duty as i was hoping it would be. the zipper does not look like it will endure much stress and the nylon is not very thick.


I used this bag trekking through the hills and mountains of Nepal and on a second trip schlepping around Vietnam. It has held up very well. No broken zippers, rips or tears. The end pockets are great for quick stowing of jackets, rain gear or other items that you want quick access to without swimming through the main compartment. The side pocket is great for keeping travel documents. I have been very happy with this purchase.


Got two bags for a recent 6-day trip to Walt Disney World. Since check-in luggage is now $15 per bag, we decided to get 2 large duffel bags for 2 adults and 2 youth. A plastic clip on the shoulder strap of one bag broke on the trip down; very inconvenient. On the way back the second bag got a nice slash, presumably from some baggage handling equipment, that penetrated the bag and cut deep into a nice down-filled coat.
Next time we'll get luggage with heavier fabric and wheels.



THIS ITEM WAS BETTER THAN WE THOUGHT. IT SEEMS BIGGER THAN THE DIMENSIONS AND LOTS OF ZIPPERED POCKETS. GREAT FOR WEEKENDERS, WHICH WAS THE INTENTION. CONTRUCTION IS REALLY STURDY. FEELS IT WILL LAST A LIFETIME.


With the new luggage weight restrictions on airlines, it is hard to travel internationally. Many suitcases weigh 10-15 pounds (20% of the allotted weight/bag) and standard camping duffels exceed the length requirements. The Outdoor Products Mountain Duffel is the perfect solution - it weighs very little and does not exceed the length restrictions. It is very strong and incredibly roomy. Because it is shorter and taller, it has centralized weight and makes it easier to maneuver on luggage trolleys in the airport. So far this item has been a life saver for us. Caveat: For those of you who like wheeled luggage, this is not the way to go.


Got this bag for my teanage son for over nighter trips. It is a fine bag. Would buy agian. It serves the purpose well.
