"Tough, but heavy" 2010-02-01
By Chris Longhurst (Salt Lake City, Utah United States)
My first experience with a Pelican case was a smaller version with pick and pluck foam that I use for a gun case. I liked it - a lot - so when it came time to get an 'occasional' case, this seemed to fit the ticket. I needed something that I could take onboard as a carry-on, but that I could also put in checked baggage if I needed to. Most rollaboards are light but flimsy and would suffer a horrible fate at the hands of typical luggage handlers. Not so with the Pelican case. This thing is seriously tough. The neoprene liner is well worth it with the double zips to keep all your personal effects nicely in place, and the utility bag and laptop bag fit perfectly in the lid. They're held in with velcro and when removed, can be stuck to each other, acting as a laptop pouch (but without its own handle).
The Pelican case's toughness is it's biggest plus point, but could also be a big minus if you're not strong. Fully packed with a laptop, power supply, cables and five days of clothes and a wash kit, this thing tips the scales at about 27lbs. That's well within the limit for checked luggage but if you pack it this full, you'll need some heft to get it into the overhead bins onboard.
Is it worth it? Absolutely. Sure it's hefty but that's because of its durability. In the last year, mine's been round the world with me (literally) twice, both onboard and in checked baggage. Whilst idly staring out the window, I actually saw my case fall off the loading conveyor at Dallas DFW a few months ago - probably an 8ft drop to the concrete. Sure it's scuffed but the hinges are in perfect condition, as are the clasps and seals. The handles show no sign of damage or potential detachment.
As one reviewer said, the interior space does seem smaller than you might expect, but pack smartly and it will be no problem.

"Great but smaller than expectec" 2010-01-30
By Luis G. Sanchez Fermin
It has the quality and durability attributes you expect from pelican, but it was smaller than expected. The bolted on handle occupies a lot of space and the overall case is smaller than max A.T.A. carry on specs. I carry a lot of expensive electronics while traveling and I need maximum protection, so I'm happy with the product

"Try to destroy this one TSA!!" 2009-12-02
By Rave Racer (BF New Mexico)
I travel alot and in three trips TSA had managed to destroy two softside cases, ripping the wheels off one and the handles off of another while my really old backup case was losing it's zippers. I sucked it up and paid the extra for this one WITH the Neoprene liner. The failing of this Pelican case is that it's double throw latches can come open and this one only has the two. The liner saved my stuff from coming out until I got smart and bought the TSA locks just to keep the thing closed if the latches pop open. Even a cheap caribiner would work but the liner is still worth it. The wheels roll amazingly well, it's actually very light, the handle pops open easily and stays shut when not wanted, and it's tough as nails. The down points are the latches, no external pockets for convenient access to documents, and small size.

"Camera case" 2009-09-13
By P. Newton (PAYSON, AZ USA)
I bought this for my new Canon PowerShot SX200 IS camera, to wear on my belt as I traveled. The bag is of excellent quality, a good size for the camera and has a pocket for an extra battery etc. Unfortunately, for me it was much too bulky to carry around and I ended up getting a much lighter bag made by Zing that also had room for an extra batter and/or card and was also very durable. For my purpose I would rate it a 3, but it rates a 4 or 5 in quality of construction.

"It's nice, I like the strap" 2008-05-27
By Bernard Buchheit
I've been buying mountainsmith products for years. I've always been pleased so I stick with them. I'm not saying that I'm crazy about it or that it's the greatest bag ever. It is what it is. I've gave it 4 stars cause I bought it. Again, I like the strap. I don't know if I'll ever use the belt option but it's there.

"nice, yet could be better" 2008-04-12
By Y. Ding
it is a nice camera bag,
but as some reviews said,
the slid on the front is too big,
though it offers a place for the extra battery,
but it is not soft enough to fold when nothing is in there

"I can fit all my compnents in the case" 2008-01-12
By Paulie (Virginia)
I purchased this for my Canon SD1000 P&S. I like the bag. I use the front pocket for the battery charger (a cozy fit!) and in the main pocket, I store the camera, USB cable, extra battery and extra SD card. Also comes with a shoulder strap.

"Nice Pouch.." 2007-07-20
By H. Dinh (OKUSA)
Well made, nice camera pouch and lots of room. Velcro belt loop is ingenious, wonder why only Mountainsmith thought of it. It might not look as pretty as others, but functionality, you can't beat it.

"very sturdy and well built" 2009-01-09
By D. Kiesling Jr. (Seattle, WA USA)
I received the Pelican Hardback 1090 as a gift, and am very happy! My old Macbook Pro died in a fall so I'm determined to protect my new one from such an untimely death. This case fits my laptop (15") almost perfectly. It includes some foam pads for customizing the fit. If I rattle the case with my laptop inside I don't hear any movement. The case is supposed to be waterproof, and I hope it as as I live in Seattle, and sometimes commute by kayak. I haven't gotten it wet yet, but based both on the way it seals, and my experience with other Pelican products, it should be fine. The case is also very light and compact relative to its size and capacity, and I can fit it in my backpack. While it includes a shoulder carrying strap, it doesn't have any kind of grab handle, and is therefore a little awkward to carry (you can't carry it like a briefcase). This oversight is the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5.

"Canon PSC-55 Leather case" 2008-07-18

This case was exactly what I was looking for. It is very high quality leather and comes with and wrist strap, although I am currently using the one that came with my camera. I would recommend this product to everyone.
