"Best travel backpack on the market, and I looked at them all!" 2007-06-15

There is a reason that Outside Magazine named the Osprey Meridian 22 their luggage of the year in 2006. This is simply the best wheeled travel backpack on the market. I looked at packs from EMS, REI, High Sierra, Eagle Creek, and The North Face, and the Osprey pack had the best combination of features and storage space by far.
I started my search looking for a carry-on legal travel backpack with a removable day-pack. The problem is that most carry on packs have tiny main compartments, some under 1,800 cubic inches. Others have more room, but offer little in terms of travel security. This bag is a whopper that is carry-on legal with 3700 cubic inches of space in the main bag. This is also the most comfortable of all the wheeled travel bags I tried on, and only the Eagle Creek bags came close in comfort for non wheeled bags.
As far as security, both the daypack and the main bag have no easy access external zippers. So prying fingers can't steal your stuff while this is on your back while travelling. In fact, the day pack has one of the most clever ways of opening of any of the daypacks I've seen.
If you're looking for a lightweight, super well made, smartly designed wheeled travel pack that is carry-on legal, this pack is your only choice!

This bag is spacious and durable. However, I don't recommend it for the simple reason that it it doesn't stand upright. There is nothing more inconvenient or annoying than a piece of luggage that constantly falls over (constantly) and won't stand upright.

I was looking for a strong, durable and well built piece of luggage. I travel pretty often and most of the times I pick up my baggage broken at airports. Automated luggage transport systems have absolutely no respect for passengers belongings. And I was tired of that.
I once purchased a High Sierra Backpack and its a great bag. So I decided to buy the High Sierra 26" wheeled duffle this time, and I just don't regret. Even price is a little higher than many other brands, when you have it in your hands you'll be sure it's worth the investment. Enough space, useful compartments, really strong zippers and sturdy, although with a modern look. And yes, it survived 3 of the most baggage-dangerous airports: Orlando, Chicago and Mexico City (in round trips each).

I ordered this at the last minute before a trip to Scotland worried it wouldn't arrive in time. Received it in 2 days for an extremely reasonable shipping cost. The bag holds our longest clubs and is very roomy. We packed it with two small golf bags with full club sets plus two pair of shoes and rain gear, golf balls, and had room to spare. After one international trip, it is holding up very well. It wheels easily. For the price, an excellent deal. I would recommend this to others.

I bought this bag a couple weeks ago and have traveled with it on 2 flights thus far. For the price, the bag works okay. It is a rather large bag (good for stuffing in extra items, but bulky to transport). And you have to have the golf cart bag in there just right for it to balance properly. Padding at the top is not much (even though the description says its heavily padded). I still felt a bit uncomfortable with my 46" driver being "exposed". After 2 flights, there is already a small hole developing on the back side.
Basically, you are getting what you paid for.. a cheap golf travel bag. I'm probably going to give up on it after a couple trips and spend to get a better bag next time (and spend more time researching before I buy).

This bag is very nice, has padded sides at the top and enough space to pack the extra clothes you couldn't fit in other bag. The shoes compartment has good size. I like the fact that it is very light. I'm not a golf pro so I don't have very sophisticated taste in terms of golf gear but I used it already and it worked just fine. The wheels are good.

I bought this bag for a hiking trip in Switzerland. I was able to get the collapsible hiking poles in the bottom of the bag, to save time at security, and had room for a weeks worth of clothes for shopping, sight-seeing and hiking, all of my toiletries (and there were lots of those), hairdryer, souvenirs...you name it. Lots of room inside. This and a backpack are all you'll need. Very pretty and not many of this color out there...a big plus at the baggage carousel (and LL Bean has a backpack almost the same identical color!) Rolls very easily. Zippers can all be locked together if you get the little TSA approved locks. Great bag!!

I got this bag specifically for a month long trip to the Pacific NW and then North to Alaska. I traveled by plane, train, ship, rental car, bus, hospitality van, subway, and even a three block walk in downtown Chicago. It took a little getting used to all the compartments but as time went by they each came in handy for different things, especially the waterproof one near the handle. When I got home and unpacked everything the bag was still in pristine condition, zippers still running smooth, cover not torn up (cleans easily), wheels still working really well. If you're going on a trip and don't want to pay for oversize baggage, BUY THIS BAG!

The bag is large and holds a lot of goods. I used it for a 2.5 week trip overseas and loved the ability to keep clean clothes away from dirty; pockets to place gifts; the sturdy wheels and handle which took serious beatings by handlers; the rugged material and the unique rusty red color which makes the bag easy to ID in a crowd. Nice features also include the ability to tighten it up when more empty, or to let it out a bit to allow for added gear and clothing.

This was my first High Sierra purchase. I recently borrowed on from a friend for my vacay back to the states. It was awesome. This bag is very sterdy, and handles being thrown out of helicopters rather well. The fact that it can roll in airports, and then be put on like a back pack for walking up stairs and through rocks and sand is perfect.
The shipping was outstanding. The estimated date that I was to recieve the bag was a little too far, and I needed it within the week and a half of the purchase. I contacted the people at luggage guru, and they were able to ship it to me within the first day or two of my purchase. It got to me the 2 days before I was supposed to leave. I ordered it on the 28th of February and I recieved it on the 10th of March, which sounds like a longer time than needed, but I was in Iraq. Mail normally takes 2-3 weeks to get out there to us, so that shows you how much these guys were willing to try to work with my request.
Overall, great product from a great company with an awesome group of people to see that it got to me in a very timely manner.
Bought this for my daughter who went on a 6 wk trip to France. It was perfect. Just the right size, fit a ton and just made weight at the airport. Easy to pull although it tips over if stood upright. Good value.

I bought this bag about a couple of months ago and it works good for my stuff. I am currently taking 25 credits in college and it holds almost all of my stuff accept one class. I looked for the biggest rolling book bag and I think this is it. I stuff it pretty full and it holds together well. Only complaint is the handle is a little flimmsy. But it still holding together.
Within a couple of weeks of my son using his new (expensive) backpack the handle broke. I'm hoping that they will honor their lifetime guarentee. I will be contacting the company and hope to get a replacement. Not what I expected to happen with a backpack that cost so much!
I have had this backpack for 5 semesters now and it's still in good enough shape to make it through this semester. This is great considering that I'm used to wearing through most of my backpacks within a year (max). It's almost the biggest pack I have seen at school (without being actual luggage) and is roomy enough for all of my yellow pages size books. I will admit that the bottom of my rolling bag is now getting shredded -- whether my fault (possibly) or the manufacturer's fault, I don't know. The bottom of the bag is pretty well supported by a very stiff backing, but the wheels (they're average for a roller bag) don't allow enough clearance for the bag's bottom to clear small bumps in concrete or pebbles in a pathway. As for the handle that most people seem to be having problems with -- mine is still in good working order. It's not as solid as some of the other backpack handles I've looked at so I can see how someone might have an issue with breakage.
I just started nursing school and was having a hard time getting used to the idea of the dreaded rolling bag!! (We have sooooo many huge books and gear its truly inevitable) So when I finally hopped on the internet and found this one I was so excited! I got it two days later and it's GREAT! It has plenty of room for what I need (I have 19 books and counting, three binders etc--not that I take all everyday!)and it's way cute so I don't feel as akward rollin around with my geek-bag! (its bad enough they have us wearing all white uniforms, at least my bag can be cute). I love it and I recommend it to anyone! If you're in nursing school, dont put it off it'll save your back and neck for sure!
This is a great roller backpack. Alot of space. I use it for college and it holds all of my books and accessories. I wanted one that was high quality and this is the right one!!
Needed a bag for my paramedic class that would carry my 10 books to class! This did the trick, plus more compartments for notebooks, folders, pens, datebook, mp3 player and headphones, laptop compartment, EVERYTHING!!!
I loved the way this bag looked, and it was actually big enough to fit all my stuff in. But not strong enough. I was just walking down the street pulling it along when the handle snapped off on the plastic part (the black part is plastic). I didn't have any trouble returning it, but I decided not to order another.
I bought this bag and I loved the room and the spacing. The very first day, I went to get the telescope handle, and w/o any weight at all, it snapped off. The metal split and the plastic broke. I have returned it and I am looking for another bag from another company, but I really am disappointed b/c the bag part was cute and roomy.
My son is in Junior High. He loves his rolling backpack and the other kids like to kick it. This one holds us, though, through all sorts of kicking, dragging, bouncing up and down stairs and curbs. Lots of great pockets and sections too.
