Strong, plenty of space & lots of organizational options--(straps won't break two months before school ends THIS year)

I purchased this bag for a two week trip through Europe. France, Germany, and Italy. For convenience, security, and peace of mind, I didn't want to check any of my luggage at the airport. With this bag, the large pack went in the overhead, and the small daybag went under the seat. This pack will also force you to pack light. That is a good thing.
As previously mentioned, the zipper pulls won't work well with padlocks. I purchased some Hog rings and inserted them in the zippers, so that I could use a lock on the zippers. This cost less than $10 to do.
I have no previous backpacking experience, but I was fairly comfortable wearing this through train stations and while walking to Hostels or wherever, to drop off the main bag.
Although the two bags can be zipped together to form one big bag, I have no Idea why anyone would want to do that. It would make it cumbersome and off balance. The small bag is intended to clip to the front straps of the big bag, so that it is positioned across your chest. Wearing it this way was very comfortable, convenient, and balanced, and also left my hands free.
If this travel bag had any downfalls, it is that the small backpack should have a water bottle pouch, the large backpack should have a couple small compartments,

I used this for a 2 week trip around europe in the summer. It was very useful, the bags detach and hence allow you to carry on on the plane. wished there were more side pockets, especially on the smaller bag.
It served its purpose well for me though, but might be harder if traveling around europe in the winter as you might have to pack more.

I bought this for a month-long trip in the US and overseas. Couple of tips:
- It's good for a laptop as the larger part has straps to hold an item shaped like a laptop.
- On domestic flights, I had to separate the two "halves" of the backpack as together the entire
bag would not fit in the overhead bin or under the seat.
- On international flights, with the larger bins, the entire bag fit comfortably overhead.
- There's a bit too many straps on the outside for my liking. I think you could cut a couple off safely and not have it affect the utility of the bag.
- The two compartments attach with a zipper. Fairly easy to use, although I wonder if over time the zipper will give way.
- The two compartments is a nice touch, though. I was able to use the smaller one for day trips to the beach, etc.
Overall a sturdy bag that is good for travel that could use a little streamlining. I recommend it if you can pick it up on sale.

I bought this backpack because I liked the idea of unzipping the smaller pack to use as a purse, and zipping them together to head to work/school. But the larger bag is not suitable for books. It has straps that will hold clothing in place, like a suitcase does. I gave it just three stars because the description and images on amazon did not give enough information about the internal organization of the bag.
