"Good Protection at a Good Price" 2009-01-26

I live in the Deep South, where golf can be played almost year round and rain is a frequent and sudden visitor. I'd been searching for a sturdy, clear and easy-to-use golf bag rain cover and protector for some time but hadn't found one that I met my requirements. I was skeptical about buying this one online, but the photos and product description, plus Amazon's great customer service and satisfaction gaurantee, persuaded me to give it a try.
Luckily this was a good call! I've been using the cover for about a year and am very happy with it. It's easy to put on and remove (that's very important to women golfers like me); the heavy-gauge material doesn't tear and really does stay supple in chilly weather; protected side pockets let me get to my bag's compartments; and the sturdy twin zippers operate smoothly so clubs can be retrieved and put away fast. The cover cleans up nicely with mild soap and water or 409. BTW I also put the cover on my bag when it's in storage to keep it and my clubs clean and dry.
IMO the cover works best when used as illustrated, with a push/pull golf cart. I don't recommend it for electric cart use as it is a bit longer than most bags are, so it could get inadvertantly worn or torn on the bottom.

"poor quality backpack, don't buy..." 2009-02-16

I bought this backpack when I wanted to have a new bag for my laptop. I got a good JanSport Backpack for my niece a few month ago and she liked that one, so I chose JanSport again. It's out of question that JanSport is generally a good brand.
But this particular backpack is really poorly made. The texture is made by some cheap materials, and definitely looks not as good as the picture shown on the website. There are not many compartments in the bag with poor paddings, and the space is not as big as that was described at all. Nevertheless, the laptop sleeve is too wide for my 15' widescreen notebook. So I bought another backpack of Swissgear this weekend when I saw it on sale with only one third price of this JanSport. And the quality of my new bag is Much Much Much BETTER than this one.
Don't buy this backpack!
"Too Small For A Tall or Big Adult Male" 2008-11-20

The quality of construction is excellent, it's just that the straps are unbelievably short. I've had Jansports before, and never once have I seen this. At full length, the backpack was quite tight around my shoulders. The straps on my other Jansport (Samba Trans) are about TWICE as long! How and why Jansport could do this is beyond me - 8 more inches of strap and I'd love this bag - too bad they don't post strap length specs on their site eh? If you a small man, a kid, or a girl, you may still be interested, so let me give you a breakdown that you probably won't find anywhere else:
The "shockshield" laptop sleeve: so called advanced laptop protection, the shockshield amounts to a hard shock absorber thing in the bottom of the laptop sleeve. So make sure if you ever drop your bag w/ lappie, make sure you drop it straight down so it lands right side up - otherwise the shock shield won't help you much. The padding on the front of the sleeve is maybe 3/16 inch - quite thin. The padding on the back of the bag, which is the back of the sleeve as well, is thicker and more adequate. My 15.4" Dell Studio stuck out about 3 inches at the top of the sleeve, thus leaving the entire edge with no padding at all. The strap on the sleeve is good - you can tighten it up all you want. I think it would provide adequate protection, but I wouldn't go so far as to say 'advanced'.

I have an XPS GEN 2 Inspiron which is 15.5" long. I had an older version of this backpack that the XPS would just fit into snugly but, alas, the zipper teeth eventually broke off. I was concerned that this backpack might be too small and after first slipping the laptop in... it didn't. But I discovered that theres a removable cushion liner at the bottom of the laptop slot (attached with Velcro), removing that gave me an extra half an inch and voila, the laptop fits (albeit snugly again). The laptop isn't completely unprotected at the bottom, there's a hard plastic shell there as well and the snug fit keeps the laptop from sliding around. 15.5" is max though...those with a larger laptop (say the newer 16" wide Dell XPS latops) will probably want to seek another backpack.

It's really a perfect bag for students. My friends and I bought 3 of it. You can carry your notebook with you because the bag has a cushion in the bottom of the bag, and you may also carry as many books as you wan. Great choice!

"Great for younger swimmers" 2009-11-12

I bought each of my three kids one of these so they could schlep their own gear to swimming practice all winter. The web pocket on the back is great for keeping goggles, cap and wet swimsuits. The top holds a large beach style towel that the kids like to burry themselves in after practice. The side pockets are perfect for storing things like glasses cases and the like.
The Jr bag is small enough that my 5 year old is able to carry it loaded with her towel, goggles and cap. After changing it holds her street clothes and a jacket.
Many of the older kids on their team have the full sized bag - Speedo Pro Backpack - I would go with the full sized Pro bag for kids over 10 or so, or a single child where the parent does not mind carrying the bag. The bigger bag holds things like swim fins that this bag would struggle with.
If you are taking more than one younger child to swim practice and you want them to carry their own gear, I would recommend this bag.

I used to be a huge SIGG fan. That is, until the protective lining began to peel off the threading of my bottle's opening. I did some online research and came across Laken, who places the threading on the OUTSIDE of the bottle. Excellent decision! Looks like the Spanish are actually better engineers than the Swiss!
I actually purchased two Laken bottles - this one from Amazon and another one with a smaller SIGG-like opening from a different online seller (they're harder to come by - it looks like Laken discontinued them). The other bottle has threading on the inside, but it's a totally different piece of metal from the lined aluminum. I actually prefer the smaller opening and my SIGG caps work with it as well, but the larger opening on the new classic Laken isn't bad at all, especially if you like to put ice in your bottle.
The other thing I like about Laken is that they're not secretive about their lining like SIGG, so I know it doesn't contain any BPA. And like SIGG, I don't taste anything in my water with a Laken bottle. I originally switched to SIGG from Kleen Kanteen "stainless steel" bottles because I could taste metal in my water. Whether that's because I'm especially sensitive to metals or because they're made cheaply in China, I can't be sure, but in any case, I want my water to taste clean. And Laken does the trick!
One more thing - I got the granite bottle because it has some texture to it. Not a lot, but it does make it easier to grip (at least when compared to the smooth SIGG bottles).

This Laken product is great. It conforms to all safety standards (the lining is safe), looks beautiful, promises to be durable, and holds the right amount of liquid for this confirmed water drinker. It has a good tight seal with just a 360 deg. turn of the cap. Truly there are no odd tastes transferred to the water by the container, unlike my old plastic bottles and even a steel bottle I currently use. Laken is known for its quality products world-wide yet it is under the radar here on Amazon, yet surely it has no problem competing with Sigg. Perhaps with time this will change and many more will be enjoying their Laken bottles gotten off Amazon for a good price (mine was $20 with free super saver shipping for my order).
There were very slight paint imperfections, but just very small ones. No complaints apart from that!

These items work as promised, they safely hold a bottle of water with a strong rubber ring that is attached by strong nylon (denier?) to a carabiner. The rubber ring was tight, but not too tight - I am female with not a lot of upper body strength, and I was able to get the rubber ring on and off different bottles of water without too much trouble. (Remember, you don't want it to be too easy to get off, or your bottle might fall out!). It worked with at least three types of store bought individual use water bottles, and I imagine it would work with most and possibly all of them.
By the way, the Carabiner was a little big for my use (the bottles I used on vacation were large, and hit a little low on my leg, but I was able to easily replace the clip with a smaller carabiner.) I use it while gardening as well. Also, there is a small metal ring attached to the nylon that can be used to hold keys. I attached a compass to my set using the key ring. Recommended, a good deal, arrived quickly!
